| Favorite highpoint of the trip by far!! Absolutely loved the drive. The trees were frosted from an earlier storm and it was really windy and super cold on top. I was also surprised to see the resting spot of Elisha Mitchell. I don't know why I never ran across that info. But I'm super jealous he gets to be buried on top a mountain he loves. | |

| Spent Easter up in God's creation, still had some solid snow on the ground with some fairly large snow drifts (for NC). The "climb" up and down was nice and clear, great hike. | |

| Awesome drive in to Mt. Mitchell SP. Drove up to the parking lot and took the short trail up to the summit. Kind of a gray day but there were still great views and it actually made some of the pictures more interesting. Loved the rhododendrons which were just starting to bloom. Photo-ops everywhere! Can't wait to come back and hike more of the trails when I have more time. This was # 3 of 6 State HPs I did in a 3 day span. | |

| I hiked up the Old Mitchell Trail from near the restaurant in a complete downpour with another hiker from Boone, NC. We couldn't see anything from the top. The rain stopped by the time I got back down. My rain gear had kept the rain out, but held in the sweat, so I was still soaked. HP27 | |

| Drove up to the lower parking lot, walked up some steps to the upper parking lot, walked past the concession stand than made the final push up the paved walkway to the summit. Beautiful scenery even in the cloudy, gray day. Missed seeing the rhododendrons in bloom however. | |

| Got to the top and there were at least 50 state troopers and Miss North Carolina to boot. That road really lets anyone up, but I also saw a family carry their grandfather up to the tower as part of his life's wish. | |

| I had planned on hiking the trail from the restaurant, but after high pointing in Georgia and South Carolina earlier in the day and too much sightseeing along the Bluegrass Highway, I once again ran out of time, so I highpointed from the parking lot. Mount Mitchell and the surrounding area of Asheville are beautiful areas. I'll definitely be back. | |
