Chimney = fun  Sucess!

The more scrambling the better, especially when there are no views.

Rainy and viewless  Sucess!

With Flanders via the Mt. Osceola Trail. Rained off and on. Absolutely no views from the summit. I think the true summit is a bit before the "viewpoint" though. We stepped on everything we could find that we thought could be the summit. Then on to East Osceola and back.

The Back Way  Sucess!

I climbed East Osceola and Osceola today by the back way. It was a very difficult hike right after a large amount of rain and only after getting home and checking this site do I realize that the other approach is much easier. Oh well, at least it was great exercise.

Mount Osceola  Sucess!

Climbed with East Osceola via the Mount Osceola Trail from Tripoli Road. An excellent dayhike in near perfect weather. Great views of the Sandwhich Range from the open ledges below Osceola's summit.

As advertised  Sucess!

From the south (Osceola Tr from Tripoli Rd):

Popular, easy wooded hike to a very fine VFTT.

Trail is badly eroded, should have expected that given the high use.

Nice Quick Trip  Sucess!

We made a quick trip out of a nice late summer hike. Always love the view down into the Greeley Ponds area.

did them both  Sucess!

I took the Osceola trail and hit Osceola first, and then made my way to East Osceola. There are some great views of the Twin and Franconia Ranges from the trail between the two. I went up the chimney on the way back. It was fun!

Osceola from the Kanc  Sucess!

We did this same climb in June about 7-8 years ago. We decided to give it a go in the dead of winter. Needless to say we had the place to ourselves. The snow was deep and unbroken. Fortunate for us this trail is on the leeward side of the mountain in regards to the prevailing winds. Awesome views from both summits.

East peak only

East Osceola trail from Greeley Pond is not the "extremely steep" climb the _Guide_ portrayed, but a tiring task nonetheless, and tough enough in the snow that I'd rather avoid descending it in the dark, so I turned around at the East peak when I saw I was behind schedule. I need to whip myself back into shape (or maybe I shouldn't carry all my heavy winter gear in November...)
Lovely wintry conditions, passing flurries with frequent sun.

Greely Ponds Trail  Sucess!

Climbed up from the Kancamangus via the Greely Ponds Trail. First mile and a half went very quickly, around 25 minutes. After that steepens quickly, but never very difficult, just physically demanding. Gorgeous day. First nice hiking weather I have had this year. Views to the East and North were incredible. Tried locating as many 4000 footers as I could, I believe I got around 20. Pretty quick trip, started at 4:30 pm around 3 hours of hiking time total.

Special Hike  Sucess!

Well, I signed the log not that long ago, but we hiked it again! The weather was perfect. There was some mud, but it really wasn't that bad. The only spots that had it seem to have it no matter when you go.

We rounded out our time at the peak of Osceola with my boyfriend becoming my fiance. So, for anyone that was up there with us, we were the ones that got engaged. Now the peak is even more special for us. We'll be hiking it every year from now on.

Greeley pond to Mt Osceola  Sucess!

From the Kanc-both summits were gained. however the highlight of the hike was the moose wading in Greeley Pond. The view from the lower summit to the upper one was cool. the best views are from Osceola not from the east summit.

Best from the Kanc  Sucess!

We did a traverse from the Kanc to Tripoli and then up Tecumseh, which was definately the way to go. We loved the trail up from the Kanc even with all of the ice, which we weren't expecting. Loved the chimney a lot. The view from the top was GORGEOUS (see panoramic shot that I posted). The trail down from the peak was easy and we shaved 40 minutes off of book time. We will probably do it again once we're done with our NE4000 and when the snow/ice is gone.
