| Not too much effort given the road access. Still found it more interesting than several other Sawatch summits. | ||

| Started just under 11,000 feet to abide by the Colorado Rule. Took my friend from Nashville along, he made it a few hundred feet below the summit before altitude got to him. Not bad considering! Great weather with the only challeng being knee deep snow in alot of spots.Makes for a sprained ankle but there was not enough snow to justify snowshoes yet. | ||

| I had climbed this peak 29 Jun 2003, and went back this time to help my granddaughter get her 5th 14er. We were slow, as it was her first 14er of the year, and because snow moved in as we approached the summit. But we made it, and enjoyed a sunny afternoon. | ||

| We skiied in and set up camp under a beautiful tree. I swear I felt a glow from spending time with something so old and strong. Late climbed in summer with Ross Schnell, Dirk, Jim and Ben McClain. | ||

| Left Radio towers at about 6am and summitted at 9:30am. Very pleasant climb. Followed the trail right on top of the ridge once we reached the saddle and it was much more solid than the lower trail. Climb "with brace" On! | ||

| Beautiful weather in the morning, headed up the E slopes. Attain the ridge as soon as possible to avoid slick scree/dirt on the trail if you climb up the E face of Princeton. Storms rolled in around 11:30-12. | ||

| rleclair | Rainy Summit Day ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 9, 2006 | |
| While most of Colorado was getting its first soaking of precipitation in what seems like years, my hiking partner and I were heading to Buena Vista to hike Mt. Princeton. Roach has a fine writeup about the road conditions up to the trailhead - fortunately the CRV handled everything up until the last 1/2 mile and then it was time to park it. The trailhead is pretty obvious with a 3-4 foot cairn that directs the hiker up a steep hillside to the contouring trail. The weather conditions was a mix of light rain that didn't require jackets until we got the SE ridgeline. From there, the wind driven rain required Gore-Tex. The hike up was uneventful and it was encouraging to see other crazy people out in the elements for a hike. Actually, I kind of enjoyed it as it kept the mountain pretty empty. We summited in 2.5 hours and stayed on top for 15 minutes to rest and eat. Temperature was about 38 degrees and precip was a "wintry mix." Again, I'm still surprised to see hikers wearing blue jeans and camo (cotton) jackets while it's raining and cold, but it happens everytime. After a short rest, we returned on the same route and headed into downtown Buena Vista for some good grub! All in all a great (rainy) day on Princeton! | ||

| A fun hike with the trail to ourselves. The only problem was when returning to the car, we discovered the electronic door-opener whould not work since we were parked so close to the radio/cell/telephone towers. Fortunately we had a hidden key attached to the frame of the vehicle. | ||

| We were going to park at the radio towers, but a tree was down in the road, so we parked just below the towers. Clouds all morning, dark and ominous, but no lightning. The summit was sacked in when we got on it around 10am. Took some pictures braved the 50+mph winds and decended. Clouds broke and the sun came out right as we hiked back over Tigger's ridge and back to the road. Some luck... | ||

| Climbed the entire road from 8900' yesterday, thats a lot of vertical! Its worth it, I'm training for Rainier. First one to summit for the day, there is almost zero snow remaining on this peak, just a few patches as you traverse below "Tigger". | ||
