Although we caught an August snowstorm, this was a very easy hike to a broad summit. Starting above tree line and overcast, there was not much to look at.

Instead of a longer day on LaPlata we opted for a shorter amount of vertical on Sherman from the east. Carrying all the overnight gear, we biveyed on the summit and watched 4th of July fireworks around Fairplay. I was able to get some nice astrophotography in between 00:01 and 02:00........ came down in the wind the next day.

First 14er of 2008! Great day hiking Sherman with my great friend Nancy. Met up with a fellow southerner (Jeb) on the way to the summit and did a couple glissades down the snow slopes of Sherman.

My future wife and I car camped at the road end and made the easy climb the following day. Have returned a couple of times since... once with my daughter when in high school. Neat climb - easy 14'er. Good memories.

Climbed this again with two buddies under some brutally cold temps (not sure if it ever got above zero). Clear skies and a long death march back to the truck. Kind of a rewarding day!

This was my first time climbing Sherman. Most times have been from the Leavick trailhead. One time however we started from the Leadville side and went over Dyer and then Gemini before summiting Sherman.

Easy hike. Only took an hour and a half to summit, and about 45 minutes to get back down. Only saw 2 other people, a father and his 8 year old daughter. Want to take some beginners on a 14er, this is the one since it is easy and not that crowded.

The weather this day had many, many moods: early morning rain, then sun, then more clouds boiled over the mountain and ridges and brought a driving rain/sleet/snow that pelted us on our ascent. However, once we reached the saddle between Sheridan & Sherman, the clouds were blowing off and the sun shined brightly. It was still cold at the summit, but cozy enough in the wind breaks for lunch. Amazing winds experienced for the entire ridgeline.
