| weathergirl42 | Birthday Summit! ![]() Date Climbed: Jun 23, 2008 | |
| Ascended via Ammonoosuc Ravine-what a great trail! Weather turned bad after stopping at Lake of the Clouds Hut. Slogged to the summit soaked to the bone, decided to play it safe and took the cog back down. HP #3. Loved it! | ||

| er185005 | Easter on Washington ![]() Date Climbed: Mar 22, 2008 | |
| Relatively short climb from Harvard cabin only about 3 hours round trip. Very cold and windy above tree line I think there were 80mph winds that day. Still a good way to spend Easter. | ||

| Lion Head. Definitely more fun than Katahdin in the fall, but I'll have to come back for Washington in the fall and Katahdin in the winter before making a judgment. Super sweet hike. | ||

| ericd | Tuckerman Route ![]() Date Climbed: Feb 22, 2009 | |
| Deep postholing through Tuckerman gully, would recommend snow shoes until base of the headwall. The mid mountain lean-to shelter makes a timely lunch spot and to re-gear. We summited pretty late in the day after 5hrs of climbing. Relative light winds (less than 50knots) at summit and not too chilly (5F). Arriving new weather system brought us whiteout, blizzard-like conditions. After 30 minutes on top, we descended kairn by kairn to the ridgeline using the last of the daylight. Disoriented in the whiteout, we traversed a lot looking for the steep notch to descend thru the rock headwall. Never found it but took a bearing using GPS, compass, and 50ft of visibility! A couple of unplanned slopes & slides later we were in the gully 4000' at dark. Re-established the tuckerman trail after a brief stint postholing around large boulders and thru the forest. An unplanned 2nd night in a snow shelter seemed very likely before finding the trail out. Down by 8:20pm. This 6000' mountain was quite a challenge and got the adrenaline pumping! | ||

| MorganF | Nice Try Date Climbed: Dec 26, 2008 | |
| Attempted Washington via Lion's Head. Left on a beautiful morning at the base of the mountain but got smacked in the face by freezing temps and 120mph winds above the tree line. We got close enough to see the road and had to turn around. We decided the summit wasn't worth getting blown off the mountain. Neither of us could stand up straight or walk normally. Took a bit of a scary slide at one point. Despite all this, it was a lovely climb and was very nice inside the tree line. | ||

| Patrick B | Failed summit Date Climbed: Jan 9, 2009 | |
| One of our team members had a severe case of hypothermia so we were forced to turn around a short distance below Lions Head. The winds were like 50 mph with 70 mph gusts. Pretty insane weather. | ||

| First drove to the top summer of 1970. Legitimate climb had to wait 37 years. Summited in good weather conditions via the Lion's Head trail, winds no more than 20mph and temperatures in the 20's. Good training hike. | ||

| dpryan999 | It's Windy up there! ![]() Date Climbed: Jun 1, 1996 | |
| 1996: Climbed twice in the summer, first by Lion Head (successful) and then by the Jewell Trail December 1997: First winter climb with UMass Crew team mates on New Year's Eve (unsuccessful due to poor visibility). December 1998: Second winter ascent in with the Crew team, this time we made it! January 2001: Unsuccessful ascent due to high winds past Lion's Head January 2008: Unsuccessful due to high winds past Lion's Head January 2009: I learned that the high winds around Lion Head dissipate after a few hundred meters. 17 January our group of four made it through the Alpine Garden and halfway up the summit before turning around due to intense -25F cold. On 19 January, my partner and I summitted under much better conditions (15F above, 40mph winds, 100m visibility). Already planning the 2010 ascent...perhaps via Tuckerman or Ammonousic. | ||
