Elk, goat and flying ants  Sucess!

Confusing signs and old map led to a 45 minute delay while I was figuring out which trail to follow. Hot day but nice. Had thought about doing the whole ridge and looping back through the lakes but didn't want this to be a late night one. Swarming flying ants on the summit. Trail is not as bad as people say. I didn't even realize I had done the "crux" section until back on the way out. Still I wouldn't want to do this with a big overnight backpack or if it was wet. Great area. Heard and saw bugling elk on the summit, a goat came up to say hi and an explosion of flowers on the trail. Fun day.

Nice peak!  Sucess!

Great peak with fantastic views. The trail is not as difficult as many have implied. However, it is not for novice hikers or anyone who has trouble with vertigo/exposure. The keys are to only go if the ridge is dry, and to not fall. Highly recommended.

Lakes Trail loop  Sucess!

Started from Norway Pass and did the Lakes Trail loop counter-clockwise, so that Whittier Ridge was more than halfway into the trip. Lots of snow on the north side of the ridge, but the trail was easy to find. At the top of Mt. Whittier, I wondered whether the "true" summit was the ridge itself, or the sketchy little pinnacle just south of the ridge.

Skamania Mania  Sucess!

Day hiked from Norway Pass TH. Beautiful day but a little warm. Lots of huckleberries to eat. Cliff trail sections are interesting but easy with some caution. Bob Bolton completed his last 1000 ft prominence peak in Skamania County. 33 and done.

Very hot day  Sucess!

Trail has had a few more reroutes, but has some new flags to show the way. Also the spray painted "trail arrows" on the rocks have been redone. All and all a good day trip, but was a little to hot out. Started at Norway and did the lake loop then over Mt. Whittier.

Whittier  Sucess!

We did the standard route from the Norway Pass TH up to Whittier. It's really more hike than scramble but the exposure makes it feel more exciting.

Route Climbed: Whittier Trail via Norway Pass  Sucess!

Did this with SouthRaker. It was a little "trippy" watching a small eruption from Mt St Helens engulf us in fine ash. Combined with high winds this made dusk, well..... interesting!

Route Climbed: Whittier Trail via Norway Pass  Sucess!

Had a nice little trip at the Mt.Margaret backcountry area. After a full round of golf, my companion and I arrived late to the trailhead (5:45) and made it to bear camp about 45 minutes after sunset. We enjoyed a wonderful display of stars and lights and found the evening very enjoyable exept for the ridiculously high winds, and the 3.4 magnitude earthquake. I'm gonna say the evening was mystical... yeah... We awoke in the morning and summited Whittier and Margaret enjoying clear blue skies and amazing views of the cascade volcanos, surrounding lakes, and scenery. Saw 2 people the entire weekend.

Whittier Traverse  Sucess!

Group of nine of us tagged Mt. Margaret, the unnamed dome, and traversed the Whittier Ridge. Beautiful day for a fun scrambling adventure.
