Overview


The way to the summit combines sections over paved roads and trails, in aclivities of varying degrees which demand good fitness level. in its forest portions the circuits displays interesting rocky formations and viewpoints overlooking the city's North zone, Guanabara Bay, Bico do Papagaio Peak, Pedra da Gavea, Maracanã stadium and Serra dos orgãos mountains. The trail is shaded and develops on slight to medium acclivities until Pico da Tijuca, crossing water sources and areas under recuperation ( a remnant of the heavy rains of 1996 ). Pico da Tijuca exposes the visitors to height and to direct sunlight on the crests. There are little drinking water sources and the topografy is uneven. Getting There


There are two access to Tijuca National Park. By North zone, take the way from downtown - Tijuca - Alto da Boa Vista ( North zone ) and when arriving at Afonso Vizeu square, enter in the National Park and continue by Bom Retiro road to Bom Retiro square ( paved ). By west zone, must take the way from Barra da Tijuca ( oceanic district ) and up the National Park by this way : Barra da Tijuca - Alto da Boa Vista ( West zone ) - Afonso Vizeu square.

History

Camping

Weather Conditions
