Getting There

From I-87:
Take Exit 19 off I-87. Follow State Road 299 west through the town of New Paltz. You will make the first right, after crossing over the Walkill River, on to County Road 7 (Springtown Road). Once on CR-7you will make the first left on to County Road 6 (Mountian Rest Road). You will take CR-6 up and over the Shawangunk Ridge. After you cross the crest of the ridge you will take the first right on to Upper 27 Knolls Road. There is a toll house at the end of the road. There should be someone there to take you money. If there isn't they ask that you go back up to the main visitor center ( you passed it on CR-6 at the top of the ridge) to pay. If you don't there are roving rangers who will charge you if they see you.

Red Tape

The Mohonk Preserve requires all climbers and hikers to either become annual members ($85 a year) or to purchase day permits ($9.00 weekdays, $??.00 weekends) These can be purchased from the Mohonk Preserve staff that are stationed at the Visitor Center, parking lot entrances, or from patrolling rangers out on the property. It's worth arriving early, especially on spring and autumn weekends.

NO ROCK CLIMBING IS ALLOWED AT BONTICOU CRAG!

When to Climb

Bonticou Crag makes for a fun climb year round. In the winter, depending on snow and ice cover, the scramble route might not be the best way to the top.

Mohunk Entry Fee...

...is $10 on Saturdays. I'm not sure if this is a general raise from the weekday $9 entry fee, or just a dollar higher on weekends.
