Overview

Peña NegrillaSE face
Moncayo deCastillaNW face

The Peña Negrilla (2118m) is also known as Moncayo de Castilla because is the western summit of Moncayo's range, in the region of Castilla (province of Soria). When we see the range from Agreda is the first summit visible and the presentation of the range. The frontier between Castilla and Aragón is in collado de Castilla (1950m), the col between Moncayo (2316m) and Peña Negrilla (2118m), an important place to the routes to the range from Agreda, but it exists as well an interesting route from the normal trailhead of Moncayo, the Santuario de la Virgen del Moncayo (1620m) and, for this reason, the climb of Peña Negrilla both with Moncayo across this col is a very good option to climb Moncayo, far of the hordes of people of normal route in sunny days of spring. Of course if we climbed to Moncayo across its normal route we can descent to collado de castilla to climb this summit before the descent to trailhead. This summit is the second in importance of the range after Pico San Miguel/Moncayo (2316m) with a prominence of 166m over the Castillas's col. As curiosity for the peakbaggers it has a secondary summit of 2000m, the Punta Norte de Peña Negrilla (2065m) at North of the main summit.
