Timpanooke  Sucess!

Great trail all the way to the top, even through the steep staircase section. Still busy even on a September Friday! Unfortunately didn't get much in the way of views as the Provo side was fogged in pretty good all morning. Made the traverse out and back to the south summit and then went up Roberts Horn on the descent.

Lots of goats  Sucess!

Beautiful day; did not have to worry about changing weather. Lots of goats before the lake and up on top. Took about 130 photos of goats! Surprised to see some of the waterfalls had dried up for the season. No way to slide down the "Timp glacier"; there were more rocks than snow.

Timpanookee  Sucess!

Did the snow field variation. Took about 9.5 hours but it was a blast.

Aspen Grove- Summer ski  Sucess!

Went up from Aspen Grove, followed the trail of ants to the summit, skied down the glacier. Camped by Emerald Lake and skied again the morning of Aug 1 so I could claim turns for July and August. The glacier was hard, bumpy, and full of rocks.

Timp Trail Run  Sucess!

Ran up the Giant Staircase with my son Kaden today from the Timpooneke trailhead to the summit. Kaden is 12 years old...his time: 2:13:40 from trailhead to summit. Good job, way to kick Dad's trash. He says he'll be back later in the summer to beat the two hour mark.

timpooneke trail  Sucess!

Hiked with the Eug to the top in 3.5 hours, including plenty of breaks and idle chitchat with other hikers. Had to shoo a mountain goat off the trail near the summit, but got some sweet paparazzi shots. first time glissading on the way down - the wet ass was worth it!

good go-to hike  Sucess!

A good hike. My most memorable was from Aspen Grove trail in early spring. My buddy and kicked steps up one snowfield after another then climbed the vertical cornice with ice axes to the saddle. We made the summit then glissaded down half the mountain on the snowfields preserving a year of use on our knees.

Everest Ridge  Sucess!

Did this one via Battle Creek a few years back. The Serac Club was camped at the Big Baldy saddle and I agreed to meet a friend there at about 4 am.

I got off work at 1 am, but managed to lock my keys in my car while I packed my gear in the parking lot where I worked. Worst of all, my car was running! After waiting an hour for my car to be unlocked, I managed to make it to the saddle by 5:30, where my partner was waiting. We followed a nice boot track to the top of the ridge, where almost everyone stopped. I cruised to the summit and back in a whiteout and then headed down as the skies cleared. A good day in the mountains.

Superb  Sucess!

Summited via Timpooneke with some scouts. There were looots of people on a Saturday with no home BYU game. But it was still great. I didn't get a chance to slide down the glacier because I needed to guide someone down the north side but I'll be back to do it, someday.

Afternoon climb  Sucess!

For a spur of the moment ascent of Timpanogos (2006), I left SLC around 1 in the afternoon, and started up the trail mid afternoon. It was interesting watching the hordes of people come down, and this unintentional strategy gave me some solitude where I only saw a few people up high. Lots of goats. Beautiful mountain.

Timpooneke  Sucess!

Less than two months out of ACL surgery on my left knee. Took longer than I expected, but no major problems. About 4am we came around a bend in the trail and saw a bull moose only like 10m away! We stopped and he slowly disappeared into the bushes. Also saw a few mountain goats near the summit. Lots of flowers and very green. Beautiful mountain.

Three buddies  Sucess!

The most beautiful cliche in the Wasatch Range. Everyone has to do it once in their living experience in Utah Valley. It truly is majestic. I don't like hiking crowded places, and would rather share a hike and mountain with a few close friends. But my two buddies and I shared a unique September day, where we didn't see a single other hiker, the entire 12 hours we spent on Timpanogos. It felt as if we were discovering this big beauty for the first time. Incredible hike I will never forget.

Go during the week!  Sucess!

Aspen Grove Trail mid day on Monday - about 15 cars in the lot with very little traffic on the way up. Spent the night by the hut and climbed up the next morning. Smoke from St. George fires made Monday a terrible day for any views but it cleared off nicely for Tuesday. Encountered about 60 - 70 goats - WOW!!
