My Typical Footwear

My Typical Footwear

Some would say not a very smart choice for the mountains, but these old shoes have been up to the tops of 10,000 foot peaks, down to the beach, through rivers, snow, and desert--don't hate on the shoes. My feet are rock hard and strong now. This picture was early in the history of these sandals--you should see how worn through (all the way through) they are now.

Oh the young!

I remember many years ago when I could hike in just about anything. Could probably have worn moccasins or flip flops and survived!

Now it takes foot surgery, orthopedic shoe inserts and good boots to hike at all but I won't give up!

Give us an update in 30 years!

Re: Oh the young!

I hope the foot surgery isn't because of that footwear--that kind of scares me. I do have fancy sandals now, the kind that are meant for hiking--so I should be okay.

Re: Oh the young!

Well, probably not....but who knows. I used to wear flat soled shoes when I hiked in my late teens and early twenties. I eventually developed heel spurs which so many people do. Since I never really wore high heels except to weddings my doctor told me the flats I had been teaching in and wearing for years on end contributed to the heel spur problem. And here I thought I was avoiding problems!!!

You'll probably be fine. Just change heel heights over the years that's what he told me and stretch your achilles tendon.

Thanks a lot. I'll keep that in mind.
