Naled Ice, Upper Angara Range, Transbaikalia
Naled, also known in Siberia as taryn (or by a German word aufeiss), is a common phenomenon in the permafrost valleys. The riverbeds are frozen through in winter, and the water seeps to the surface and spreads far and wide. The resulting body of ice remains for a good portion of Siberian summer, and then in late fall, the freezing starts again.
