Near the summit

Near the summit

One of two large pipe 'faucets' on the N ridge of Millicent, looking down to Silver Lake. I can only guess that these are snowmakers or some kind of avalanche control device. July 12, 2006. 8:10 PM. Lots of haze/smoke in the air, kind of oppressive and depressing the way the summer evening sun was reduced.

they are avi control devices

I think they blow out compressed air that simulates a bomb. Brighton has (had?) an Avalauncher (compressed air gun that shoots charges) they stationed just above Killer Cliff. I think that may have been replaced by this newer technology.

Re: they are avi control devices

Cool, thanks. They must work, huh? Brighton installed 3-4 of them on Milly. Wouldn't mind seeing one in action some day. From a distance of course. :)

Yeah, by the way you've described them, I would not want to be near it when the button is pushed.
