No, I used the Granite Park cutoff I described since I was meeting my wife there. From Fred's description, the West Face sounds kind of like a mess to follow down because of numerous pointless and misleading cairns. I hope you get to the NW ridge. It's a very scenic route, and the notch next to Gem Glacier is an awesome spot.
