There is no need to ascend this nasty scree gully that retains snow into August. Near the second cabin by the creek (at maybe 11,400') there is a good-sized cairn that marks the beginning of a strong miner's trail that switchbacks through the trees up the slope to treeline and a little beyond. Above that is a steep grass slope that is easy to navigate to the ridge.
