Hey Bob,

While doing some research on this range--I'm thinking about going there this summer--I came across this tidbit:

"The legislation [Wilderness Bill] also shields 1.2 million acres of the Wyoming Range, a hunting ground that is home to half of Wyoming’s moose population, from oil and gas drilling."

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/26/science/earth/26land.html?_r=1&ref=us

Could it really have half the moose in Wyoming? If there are that many, I'd think you'd be practically tripping over them, because there are a ton of moose elsewhere in Wyoming.

Well, I almost DROVE into one there back in 2002! Anyway, that's great news. Yeah, I have to wonder if half of them are there, considering all the moose I've seen in Yellowstone, the Beartooths, the Tetons, and the Winds, but heck, if that claim helped get wilderness designation, I'm all for it.

So when might you be out there? I might be there around the July 4 weekend.

I'm thinking of spending a couple of days in August.

I've spent a lot of time in that area--lived in the Palisades Reservoir and Teton Valley areas in Idaho for four summers--but never made it up there.

Great page BTW, it's gotten me dreaming (obviously) about going there.

Just read today that Obama signed the bill about 10 days after you posted this. The Wyoming Range finally has some official wilderness status. Thanks for alerting me to this.

Still going this month? I climbed Hoback Peak about a month ago and should be adding a page today. That's on the east side, though, and there's a lot more to do from the west side vie Greys River Road.

Sweet...I'll check out the new page.

And yep, still planning on going there! It sounds like exactly the kind of place where I'd love to spend a few days car camping.
