Until Forest Road 6554 ("Evergreen Mountain Road") leading up the mountain washed out several years ago, more summiters used that approach than the one described on this page. From the end of that road, the official Evergreen Mountain Trail (#1056) was only approximately 1.5 miles long each way. There have been proposals to repair that washed-out road in the future, but nothing definitive. There should be some mention of the original standard route, and where the road closure is, as some people still use that approach, despite it being quite long now due to the washout, although some people choose to mountain bike that currently closed section of road rather than hike it. And if the washout section ever gets repaired, supplying that information becomes even more valuable to this page.
