Climbed this with 3 other good friends. One of the best hikes of my life and the climb that got me into the sport.

Can't wait to go back!

Often do this to keep in shape. Probably have done it about a dozen times or so. It fun to make up your own route near the top.

Did it first on Oct. 6, 2007. This was a fun scramble to the top. The views were blocked by fog and haze. Still, a fun hike. Did it a second time with my girlfriend and the views were much better this time.

Woke up at 3:00 AM and drove out to Old Rag. Great hike, no one else there at all until I was almost down. Took the Ridge Trail up, then down the other side along the Weakley Hollow Fire Road. The rock scrambling was especailly fun and I got off the "trail" a few times up top, had a lot of fun. Took me 5:45, but I took a gazillion pictures and several long stops to enjoy the morning too :)

NOTE: There is an $8.00 fee PER PERSON from March-November, and $5.00 from December-February. I think the rates got hiked just this year.

I first got hooked on hiking and mountains by doing Old Rag (in 1980). I've done it at least a couple dozen times since and it is still one of my favorites.

First time at Old Rag hiked the loop and really enjoyed it. Did it a second time on 1/2/07 this time went back through the bouldering portion instead of doing the loop. That rock scramble is just to fun. Next time will do the White Oaks Canyon hike to the top.

a cold and windy day, but very clear and well worth the effort. In fact, this summit alone made our 6-day trip worth it. Though it was cold, we stayed on top for a long lunch break to watch some Aussie-style rappellers and to do some bouldering of our own.

Climbed Old Rag a few times as a Scout growing up. I remember it as a tough, yet fun, dayhike. I loved the rock scrambling portions...

Got in the car, headed down to VA in the middle of the night, and made it as day broke. Had a great time going through the boulders to the top. It was a cloudy day, but I still got some pretty darn good views. Was the only one on the summit. Go early, or late in the season, or on a weekday, or combine all three into one like I did, and you won't be bothered at all. This really is a classic climb for the east coast, plus it's in a National Park. If it was a movie they would give it two thumbs up.

Hiked up Old Rag while visiting Nick in DC. It was an interesting class 2 scramble up to the crowded summit. We had excellent weather and nice views.

While it can easily be done as a day trip, my brother and I camped overnight after reaching the top. One of my most favoritest trips. :-)

Clouds, clouds everywhere...My wife and daughter made it to the Top!!! After fighting the humidity all the way we were treated to no views...all we took away was a great feeling of accomplishment and togetherness...It was great to have Cat along as well...I now know why some folks insist that this is really tough and would not recommend for small children...my 16 year old son had to help Mom and Sis both up and down some of the more difficult sections...previous poster summed it all up perfectly, oh "so scrambly"

GahugafugaFun, Weather Permitting  Sucess!

Gahugafuga

Used to do this one almost yearly with my scout troop. We once climbed it during a fall rainstorm. It was so miserable that we didn't even stop at the summit, preferring to hightail it to the shelter halfway down. On the way up we passed another troop that was "training" for a backpacking trip by hauling full bags over the summit. Those kids were not happy.
