On The West Spire of Ama Dablam

Almost end of the road without climbing gear, or permit! Exposed ridge connecting to the steep west spire of Ama Dablam. Photo taken somewhere around 5100 meters, west spire is around 6130 meters obscured by the storm cloud directly behind me. I climbed a bit further than where this photo was taken, maybe two hundred meters more at most. Started down in the valley in Dengboche around 4340 meters. The main peak of Ama D proper, about 6850 meters high is visible upper middle of photo. Alternating dry snow and sunshine, just plain beautiful! Serious blizzard down in the valley, though. Enough to warrant two search parties to start out just as we came back down... sorry Ted :) April 2007.
