Class 3?This looks class 2 at best. I really have only ran into class 3 in Huntington.

Re: Class 3?This is actually looking up, but personally I consider the entire trail Class 2. The White Mountains Guide and some other guide books call some of the scrambles on this trail Class 3. If you look at the sp web page for Mt. Washington, they have Class 1-3 as well. I don't know really because classifications are touchy unless its technical. So sorry if that helps or doesn't. Take care!

Re: Class 3?I went up this way on a nice day. The only class 3 that I got was during the car ascent years earlier. I almost got bowled over by the wind up on top!

Re: Class 3?I'm just going by what the book says. It says class 1-3. If that's not right, I'm sorry. Talk to the book editors! Thanks for your input and take care!

Re: Class 3?I saw a White Mountains Map coming up with the classification of class 1: easy, class 2: moderate and class 3: hard. There was no class four or five on that map. Also the map rated trails to other trails in the White Mountains. That map listed the Falling Waters Trail as a class 3 trail when the trail has only a couple areas that approach class 2 (even that is highly debated).
It is not your mistake so much as it is the editors probably using this system instead of the YDS system. I remember the Ammonusuc Ravine Trail as being class 1 until the waterfall and then class 2 until reaching the hut. There was one small ladder but nothing else to push it to class 3. The trail was quiet a leg burner though.
Off topic: Are you planning on heading to New Hampshire again????

Re: Class 3?Hey! Thanks for your input. I agree with everything you said. Great trail! But yes, I do plan on coming to New Hampshire again, I just don't know when. As soon as I do plan to get up there again though, you'll be the first to know. Thanks so much and happy holidays!
