Ophrys tenthredinifera. These are orchids which resemble (in appearance and smell) the females of specific insect species. They say that there is an ophrys species for every insect one ;-) May 28th 2004

Hasn't voted | Orchids are common upon the mountain plateaus of Sardinia (at around 3000 - 4000 ft). This particular one seems to be a bit more rare since I only found two specimen. But there were pictures in all of the guidebooks I used, so maybe not THAT rare.
