Passing the dihedral/roof in...
Passing the dihedral/roof in the second (?) pitch. Note the 4-foot runner just below Jeff. If you try to pull this off with only short quickdraws the rope drag will be miserable.


The lighter rock in the top-left corner is Liberty Bell. Gives you an idea of Minuteman's place in the world when you can point your camera straight up and get another mountain in the photo.

Thank you. I'd resorted to aid on the shield at the top when Derek and I attempted this the year before. (Weather and impatient friends turned us around.) On this trip with Jeff, it went free. That's always been my greatest joy in climbing: pulling off something I didn't believe I could do.

It does, doesn't it? We're looking up to the L side of the shield; the route climbs from the right corner of it to the center. As I remember, we agreed it was pretty steep.
