Passion Flower

Passion Flower

Amazingly beautiful Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata) near Lake Casitas in Southern California with a bee approaching. These flowers are native to most parts of the word, including California, and most species require a large bee for efficiant pollination. They have been used for millenia as a medical remedy. Thanks to SP member Branko for identification. May 26, 2008

Re: Unique

Thanks. I have no idea so far what species it is. It grew vine-like on some bigger bushes. Cheers.

Re: Unique

Here in Croatia we call this flower Isusova Kruna (lat. Passiflora) which is in free translation Crown of Jesus.
I found following on the internet:
'Passiflora are also known as passion flowers, passionflowers, granadilla, grenadilla, maracuja, granadiglia, passiflora azzurra, fiore della passione, passionaria, pasiflora, passiflore, fleur de la passion, passiflore bleue, blaue passionsblume, pasifloro, زهرة العاطفة, passionera, flor de la passió, گل ساعت, passionsblomst, grenadilo, flôr di passion, mburukuja, maracujá, fior 'd pasiòn, and passionsblomma.'
