Route Climbed: Partial Trail from the road Date Climbed: July 21, 2005  Sucess!

Another great hike with Cornvallis, see post below. Really awesome views. We made our way to the peak east of the true summit for some time away from the crowds, then hiked over, found all the people and tagged the summit.

Route Climbed: Main Trail Date Climbed: July 23, 2005  Sucess!

This was a fun, easy hike. The views were great, lots of photo ops. I went with a bunch of friends who were ill-prepared and suffered on the short trip. A few turned back, grabbed the cars and drove to the top.

This peak would have meant more if there wasn't a parking lot at the top.

Probably the best panoramic view of the Oregon Cascades anywhere. Adams to Shasta. Scrambled up a sub peak to the west to get away from the people/cars and enjoy the views.

Route Climbed: Trail Date Climbed: June 10, 2005  Sucess!

I hit snow about 3/4 mile up the trail and then at the mile mark it was steady, which means I postholed a lot. It took me longer to get to the top, thanks to the postholing in the snow but it was a good workout. I elected to walk back down the road as it was snow free after about a half mile from the summit. I had a neat deer encounter with a doe and her two fawns. Seeing me the doe charged away up the hill but the two fawns elected not to follow her and charged up the road towards me, coming within three or four feet before they veered away. Too bad I didn't have my video on but I did snap a couple digital pics.

Ok, I'll take the trail next time! Honest, I didn't know that there was a trail until I saw this page up. I think this is the highest road in Oregon that a regular car can travel!

Route Climbed: Paulina Peak Trail Date Climbed: September 08, 2004  Sucess!

I did this hike after spending the first part of the day at Crater Lake, making for a pretty volcanic day. The views in the crater were quite fascinating. I could also see from Shasta to Jefferson. I camped on the north east shore of Paulina Lake and slept very well after this long day. I would like to go back and check out the rest of the volcanic monument more thoroughly, when I have more time to spare.

An hour up. Pleasant hike. Met a couple from New York on their honeymoon up top and talked to them for a while. Great views from Adams all the way down to Shasta.

Route Climbed: Hikers Trail / Forest Service Road Date Climbed: June 2000  Sucess!

I ran the hikers trail from the floor of the caldera near Paulina Lake to the summit in about 40 minutes. I didn't stay on the trail the whole way and bushwhacked whenever I felt I could save time. I was in a "race" with my wife who was biking the forest service road. There were portions of the road still covered in snow. We met at the top and enjoyed the sight of Hood, Jefferson and the Three Sisters in the distance. Plus the lakes below with their gnarled lava and obsidian shores made for a fantastic view. Fort Rock and the desert to the South and Southeast are unlike anything in the Cascades but they had to wait for another day. (You can reach Fort Rock by driving out over the Eastern edge of the crater's rim if you don't mind traveling 30 miles on a washboard road.) Anyway, the 360 degree view with its variety of landscapes makes this simple climb worthwhile.
