Peak of Mágina

Peak of Mágina

Peak of Mágina (2,167 ms) is the highest point in the Province of Jaén. The summit is the tip in the center, that has just beneath the shadow of a cloud. The rocky peak in the right end of the crest, which seems to be higher, is Peña Jaén (2,130 ms). The peak visible in the right edge of the photo is called Serrezuela (1,965 ms). I took this photo at march 30, 2008 from Peak Ponce (2,006 ms), another summit of the same geological unit, Sierra de Mágina. Previously, I had climbed to Peña Jaén for its NW spur (below the summit in the photo), gone by the crest to Peak of Mágina, came down to the intermediate valley (Arroyo de los Prados = Meadows Stream) and up to this other ridge, passing Cerro Cárceles (2,052 ms), another secondary peak before reaching Ponce. Almost all this route is visible in the photo. It was a long but beautiful day.
