Route Climbed: Spur trail off Phelps trail to Mt. Marcy Date Climbed: July 20, 2000
What a day for a hike. Weather was perfect (65 degrees F and mostly sunny). Nice easy round trip hike of 8.8 miles (14.2 km) and we did it with our 9 y/o son. Most of the reason it is so easy is that the first 3.2 miles (5.3 kg) is mostly level providing a nice "warm up" before the final 1300 ft (400M) ascent to the summit.
Summit is partially bare rock providing great views south and west. There are commanding views of Mt. Marcy. In fact, with a desent pair of binoculars we saw people standing on Marcy's summit.
Overall, for the effort it took, we thought that this was a nice "little" high peak" that provided memorable views. Our hike time total was 6 hrs (round trip), but we spent a solid 1.5 hours enjoying the summit. Had a nice summit lunch as well. Not the most challenging, but hey, ya gotta climb all 46 anyway and there are much worse out there.
"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."
