Photographing the Sunset at White Sands National Monument

White Sands National Monument, NM is a very popular destination. After enjoying the thrill of sliding down the sand dunes, the next most frequent activity must be photographing the setting sun. Shortly afterward the rangers will come along sweeping the park to have everyone leave (except backpackers with an overnight permit). The park does not open early enough to catch the sunrise, so would-be photographers looking for those glorious golds, oranges, reds and scarlets will have to secure one of those backpacking permits if they want to shoot in the hours at dawn.
