Borut, you can send the page owner a message asking if they'll give you co-editing rights. After that, for essentially abandoned pages, you can "PM the elves" off the "contact us" link, explain the situation, and ask that they transfer editing rights for a particular page to you. They do consider these requests and respond promptly.
