6 year old floats off in balloon

by Alpinist » Thu Oct 15, 2009 9:14 pm

This doesn't look good. The balloon is down but the boy isn't in it.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A homemade balloon aircraft floated away from a yard in Colorado after a 6-year-old boy was seen climbing inside, setting off a frantic scramble by the military and law enforcement agencies before the balloon slowly touched down in a field.

Story.

Reminded me straight away of the Flight of the Navigator movie! He's probably well in the future by now.

I bet Disney-Pixar's film "Up" is going to be sued over this.

I heard the kid crawled into a basket suspended from the balloon, a basket that has not yet been found.

Maybe I'm just a natural skeptic but this story sounded strange from the beginning. Father is a budding reality show star, apparently trying to sell a new show idea about; you guessed it - the homemade flying saucer shaped balloon. I suppose this whole thing could be innocent, but it couldn't have worked out better if one was looking for publicity. Coincidence maybe?
What a world, what a world.

For some reason I kept thinking of James and the Giant Peach...

Glad to hear he was hiding in the attic. Disaster avoided!

Pathetic capitalism strikes again. I'm going outside to view some leaves.

I normally blame stuff on global warming and reality TV.

I saw the interview. Unbelievable! I hope they send the father a bill for the rescue costs.

I wonder if DHS will get involved now that the family has demonstrated that they are not fit to be good parents
