Avalanche in Picos de Europa (the pictures)

by miguelo » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:31 pm

Three weeks ago (may-8), a great noise was heard in an area around the secluded village of Bulnes (647m), at the very heart of Picos de Europa, close to mythical Naranjo de Bulnes.

An avalanche of snow and rocks coming down from the northern slopes of the Cueto Albo felt over the trail that leads to the peak Torrecerredo (the highest in Picos de Europa) in the place known as Llanos del Torno, about 1000 meters below.

Luckily enough, no one was hurt . Some days later a group of Spanish climbers (Hector, Torres, Mino, Jose y Chus) showed a series of pictures with the complete sequence of the avalanche. They had been hiking in Peña Main area, just above Bulnes, after hearing the noise managed to grab their cameras and take the pictures.

Here you have the pictures those guys kindly allowed me to show you.
