Burnt Hollow ridge climbing

by WyomingSummits » Sun Mar 02, 2014 2:49 am

Took a buddy out for a 6 miler at Burnt Hollow rec area today. It was -9 with 20-30mph winds making the chill factor -20+. Fresh 4" of snow. Basically it's a sage brush valley with 100-300ft dirt and shale mesa's that line both sides with knife edge ridges. The extreme cold turned the dirt pretty solid and the snow was decent under the top layer. It's was pretty sick at times because you knew you were walking on a 36" ridge made out of consolidated clay covered with 12" of snow with 65-80 degree slopes on either side that dropped up to 300ft....would be a fast ride down. Was a great workout and we managed to avoid frostbite.
