Camping/Parking Question for Grays and Torreys

by ColoradoLawDobe » Sun Jun 27, 2010 3:33 pm

Hey everyone, I was reading on 14ers.com about the trailhead for Grays and Torreys and I had a couple questions. First off, I was planning on going up on the night of July 4th to camp at the trailhead so I can get an early start so I was wondering if the trailhead/sporatic camping spots get full often? Also, I read that the road is not for low clearance vehicles, would a standard 4X4 suv be able to get up the road okay? Thanks!

standard SUV should be fine - trickiest part are the deep ruts right at the beginning - worst comes to worse you have to walk up to the trailhead - did it three times, takes probably 2 hours - you should have no problem to find a spot to pitch your tent - most people climbing these peaks are day trippers - trailhead is a zoo during the day, but gets comparably empty at night
