I think he'll be too busy. Now that he's done the first "7 Summits" he's going for the second highest 7. Plus, he did Everest w/o O's so I don't think the average "motivational audience" could relate anyway.

Amazing how fast these things are done nowadays. But running out of batteries for his Sat phone? Bad planning, that alone could have cost him his life!

I agree regarding the speed. Just shows you how far this sport has developed over the years.

I thought about this technique after I saw the presentation at the Everest Museum in Namche. A Sherpa had done it from BC in 20 something hours. Bang bang.

How many problems you avoid doing an ascent like that. Much fewer supplies and the people to carry them in and up. The debilitating illnesses that get worse over time etc. I think this is going to be a growth sector of the big mountain sport.

Yeah, but he probably had big bucks, so I'm not impressed. Most Sherpas are rolling in dough.

I heard very bad news this morning. Bad for all us, climbers.

He admitted he reached "just" 7500m. He is very good man and very talented alpinist. He doesn't need this kind of garbage. Stangl has a great capacity and all his previous work will be in question now (by press or others). He doesn't deserve that. It's bad that sometimes climbers put themselves under the high pressure. He said sponsors never pressured him. He was afraid of failure. We all are ...

I also have responsibilities to my sponsors but never tried to photoshop my summit pic. I just report that summit is not reached and all my good friends and supporters are happy I came back alive. But, I am not good climber so maybe they don't expect from me a lot. :-)

We all expect from climbers like Christian only success. Failure is not an option ... That is too bad. Main goal is to have great experience from mountains not to bring controversy.

unacceptable

by pablo » Wed Sep 08, 2010 11:24 am

from my humble opinion that an alpinist of this level makes this kind of lie it's simply unacceptable... and a great pity .... it goes against the core values of mountaineering

at least he has admit it.

Let's see now when does Miss Oh admit her lie about Kangchenjunga...

The average "motivational audience" won't know the difference.
