I've heard that the Pakistanis are going to drop the fee for all peaks below 7000m for 2005. The only thing you need in that case is a normal trekking permit and that's not applicable in all areas.
Better double check this info.

Greetings from Pakistan!

The royalty fee for climbing in Pakistan will be 50% off as of last few years. I just got the letter from Ministry of Tourism and if you are interested in details please do write at info@atp.com.pk.

We also organize un-guided expeditions to all eight all eight thousand meter peaks in Pakistan.

Regards,

Essar Karim

Yes, they have extended the 50% discount for this year (and hopefully beyond), so:
K2 is US$6,000
8000+ is US$4,750?
7500-8000 is US$2,000
7000-7500 is US$1,250
6500-7000 is US$750
Up to 6500m is now free, unless it is in a restricted area like Baltoro or Hushe and you need a trekking permit and a paid registered guide, but no LO.

They've had wild winter there with lots of snow.

That posting above isnt correct - Damien's is closer, the 8000m peak fee is actually US$4500 (I have 2 in my hot little hands now), except K2, which i understand is $7500, but may be wrong. It sure as hell isnt $3000...I wish!

Word is that fees will go back to normal next year, so hop onto it!
