Cordillera Real current conditions?

by Dan Bailey » Fri Aug 08, 2014 12:55 pm

Hi, anyone know how climbing conditions are shaping up at the moment on Condoriri, illimani, that neck of the woods? I'd heard there was unseasonal fresh snow but no idea how reliable that source is. Thanks

Hi Dan
There was a fair amount of snow over much of the Cordillera Real 2 weeks ago. Some windy and unsettled weather since has been interspersed with the more usual cloudless and calm days.
Condoriri was in very good shape 1 month ago but the new snow has probably complicated conditions on southern aspects.
Illimani didn't appear to get much of the snow other than the southern side, which a team found to be too unstable to climb about 2 weeks ago.
In short, plenty of things in good condition out there but some routes will be much harder work for a while - as noted mostly southern aspect routes.
http://www.boliviaclimbinginfo.org has more and recent pics of the range.

Cheers
Gregg
