First Himalayan Climb

Am planning my first Himalayan climb for fall 2009. Mera or Lobuche East. I've climbed before, will be with a few that have lots Himalayan high altitute trekking experience, no climbing. All super fit and motivated. Any suggestions on which to choose?

Mera is the best bet for people with limited climbing experience.

Agreed. It will be tame for the climbers in the group, but the setting is stunning. Combine it with a trek into the Hongu for a fantastic walk. Crossing the Amphu is slightly more difficult than Mera. The scenery is utterly top-notch.

Just back from a trip to Nepal - did Mera and Island Peak (via Amphu Lapchu - correct Spelling). Mera isnt technical whatsoever, but amazingly tough at 6500m. Island was fun, again fairly easy technically with fixed ropes but a very hard day out physically. The pass was semi-tough, I fell 5m at one stage and was saved by my backpack and helmet. Would thoroughly recommend this type of trip as a first up in Nepal.
