Grizzlies are dramatically expanding their territories in WY. They have been showing up further south and east than ever. One showed up outside of Lander last year...much further south than expected.

It would be nice to see a restoration, but I doubt you will see it in places like CO and CA. Too many people. People have a hard enough time accepting living with grizzlies in the sparsely populated states. And in some of the Mountain States, you would run across a hostile political climate.

Doesn't matter! The grand visions and far reaching powers of the great dictators will bring grizzlies to my doorstep before 2020! I have no doubt that they will leave my family unarmed to face certain death!

^^^^The report is long, but they have a condensed version.^^^

But, yes, much of the former prime habitat is now occupied and/or heavily impacted by millions of people. It looks like they are targeting relatively small recovery in sparsely populated areas. Nonetheless, people would be impacted and it sounds like an uphill battle (for now).

I wonder what it is with the Puget Sound that makes it undesirable for Grizzlies (Puget Sound is apparently outside the historical range)?

I hope the grizzlies are released in Sacramento.

I wonder what the above map looked like for the American Indians and where the tree huggers are concerning that issue? We need more people huggers. :D

Has anyone asked the bears how they feel about this? I'm not sure if they really give a shit which state they live in.

I always wondered why you would see bears on the Hunt screen in Oregon Trail, sometimes on the plains even before you reached Chimney Rock. It turns out that is historically accurate, according to the map. Interesting. Not only did you have dysentery, but bears stole your food.

For example, can you imagine grizzly bears rather than black bears living at Whitney Portal?

Whitney Portal? I'd accept a record breakin' frickin' average of 7 deaths per year. After that is well established, I might actually go there for the first time ever. ...but, ...um, ...yeah, ...I don't make the rules.
