Homer's Young Peak info?

by Cotton » Wed Jul 11, 2012 11:43 pm

I'm headed down to Big Hole in 2 weeks and meeting an old friend. He's not a regular mountain climber, but pretty fit. I'm trying to get some info on Homer's Young Peak and having difficulty finding anything concrete? Anyone know approach distance? Elevation gain? Class (2-3?)? Any info or resources appreciated.
Cheers

Haven't done HY yet, but it's on my list for the next few years...

Based on what little info I've found, topo maps, and GE:

SE ridge route
From Lower Miner Lakes (via trails 187 and 402)-
Distance is approx. 7.0 miles (one way), of which almost 6 is on the trails
Elevation gain is just under 4000 vert ft.
SE ridge shouldn't exceed Class 2, and if so, only briefly Class 3.

Should be a good climb, just leave early to avoid the afternoon T-storms
