I am going to Cordilla Blanca next week intending to climb Tocllaraju. I ordered a pair of Lowa Civetta GTX Extreme boots online. When the box arrived, the label read, "Civetta Extreme." Is there a difference between the Civetta GTX Extreme and the Civetta Extreme? Are either suitable for 6,000 meter climbs?
They should be fine for Tocla and all Blanca 6000ers, including Huascaran. They've been used much higher than that.
Assuming they're the red ones (regular Civettas were greenish color?) and they're Extrem, then I think they all had the gore-tex liner in the inner boot. I have a pair, but not nearby that I can check. They're an old design now, but good boots if you want regular plastics. Low volume toe-box and relatively flex uppers mean they feel a bit less clunky than many plastics of that generation.
I have a similar question, does anyone know if these boots would be suitable for Aconcagua and/or Denali?
I'm a size 15 in normal shoes, and fear that these are may be my only option if the Baruntse 50's are too small. They are the only boot of this warmth that I can find in a 16
