FS New rope, 8.0 Phoenix Dry Glacier 40m, I bought from Feathered Friends in Seattle on 23 Aug for $138.10. I am new to climbing and made a mistake on length. I would like to sell it for $120, but I guess I've drawn the short straw, so I will listen to offers. I live in VA and shipping is included, feel free to ask for more pics, I can take pic of my Visa statement if you like.

So, you live in Virginia, are you looking for a shorter rope then?

No, would actually love to trade, or I will buy sometime over the next 6-12 months a 8mm x 70m for glacier travel.

I guess a 40m would work for 3 people, but tight for four, which is probably what I would do for Rainier if I get more experience. A 70 or even a 60 offers a bit more versatility I think...

My goals are peaks over 10K in the US and maybe internationally if I can find partners, in order to develop my skills and experience.

40m is perfect for basic glacier climbs on Rainier, Baker, etc. for three people. I used a 40 meter rope on basic glacier routes for many years. 60 and 70 are WAY overkill for Rainier. A 50 would be a really good length for four people. IMNSHO, three person parties are the most efficient size for most objectives from basic glacier climbs to technical alpine routes.

That is good info. I wish I could say I am an experienced climber at my age, but I can't. I took an basic course with Alpine Ascents last month and summitted Baker and then did Adams on my own, but you probably know it isn't technical, although I wore crampons. I trekked to Everest Base Camp, but that only proves I can operate at elevation...or that I did that time.

So maybe I will keep the rope, I should have gotten at least 50m just so I could have 4 people.... Being new, I need to find some experienced folks who trust...and like...me enough to climb with me. And given my location, it is a tall order.

I am taking rock climbing class at Seneca in WV and ice climbing in Ouray, so trying...

Yeah, I get by with 30-40m on glaciers as well.

I grew up climbing at Seneca. North Carolina is a great state for rock climbing. Get up to NH and Vermont in the winter. Mt Washington will get you weather hardened in no time! If you're ever out in WY let me know. Where do you live in VA?

I live in Herndon (Reston area). I was just in ID for a family camping trip in Bitterroot, but that was more relaxing...:) I followed that with the Baker/Adams summits.

I will definitely let you know if I get to WY, same for you in VA!

I used to live in Herndon. I've heard it has grown and I would not recognize it.

That's funny that two of you have connections here. I have been here 12 years and it has grown in that time. I am originally from PA.
