North Carolina Suggestions

by MarkDidier » Wed Apr 08, 2015 12:01 am

I'm heading to NC/GSMNP in early June and am looking for some suggestions on good dayhikes. I should have up to 3 days for hiking.

Guidelines:
I will be camping at Smokemont and am looking for something with no more than a 2 hour drive to the trailhead from the campground/Cherokee - prefer 1 1/2 hours or less.
Any suggestions on the NC side of GSMNP are welcome - but not on the Tennessee side.
I'll consider anything up to 20 miles - won't say I''ll do it, but will consider it.
Something with a lot of, or at least some, excellent open views.
If there is some great waterfall/river hike I'll consider that as well - always good for cloudy/misty days.

I already have 3 or 4 ideas but am just throwing this out there to see if anyone knows of something I'm missing.

Thanks in advance...
