Good or Bad News for Everest?
Nothing wrong with the idea in principle; whether it's going to be good or bad will depend on how it will be put in practice. Providing jobs to the local community is good, but if tourists come in large numbers, that could be bad for this fragile environment.
I assume that those aiming to climb Everest are only a fraction of the target audience, because I don't see how the expenditure for this center could ever be justified otherwise. Hikers, for example, form a much larger market. And to go one step further: with easy access to Everest, the future might literally bring bus loads of tourists on day trips! Not necessarily bad, but whatever happens, we'll have to wait and see if it's sustainable.
