Planning a trip to Jungfrau area early march. Will probably take the Jungfraubahn up.

I was wondering if anyone has gone up to the hut without taking the train? Or does anyone have knowledge of access routes, without taking the train, coming from the North side of the range (i.e. Grindelwald).

Any advice/info welcome.

It seems you are looking for more of a "wilderness" experience. Instead of foregoing the train, recommend you consider taking it up to the 'joch and then work your way back to the area of the Finsteraarhorn.

Achieve the summit of the Eiger by any route and hence over the south ridge to the Mönchjoch or climb the Mönch via the Nollen and descend the normal route to the Mönchsjoch. Or you can come in from the south via the Aletschglacier.

There's a reason they built the train.

Ski tour from Blatten (over on the far Western side of the range), where there's a free car park, up to Hollandia Hutte. Then down the Aletch Glacier to the Konkordiaplatz and up to the Moonchhutte.

The train is insanely expensive and anyway the above is nice for acclimitization if you've got the time and weather window.
