K2 BC is expensive to go to because it's in a restricted zone. Usually $1000+ because you have to go through a trekking company. There's a lot of areas on par with K2 BC such as Hispar-Biafo and Batura that need no permits, can be done a fraction of the above price, are rarely visited and ultimately more reqarding in my opinion. All that is needed is a bit of imagination. If you've got a tent and stove then porters are simple to arrange at trail heads.

You don't need to go through a trekking company to trek in Pakistan unless going to a restricted area. You usually don't even need a guide since porters know the routes. I'd recommend Nanga Parbat's Rakhiot (northern) base camp beyond Fairy Meadows and Batura Glacier as a good combination as they contrast the Himalaya with the Karakoram well. The people north of Gilgit or also totally different to people to the south.

Sorry but made a mistake on that one. I went with Adventure Travel but I know them from the trip.
