Everest 2008 - Tibet

by radson » Sat Oct 13, 2007 4:09 pm

Is anyone contemplating tackling the big 'E' from Tibet. Heard all the rumors of Chinese hordes not seen since the days of Ghengis Khan swamping the ABC.

I would be interested to know if anyone has any real information on the chinese mountaineering association's plans for the Beijing Olympics and Everest. I have heard almost all the rumors but wouldn't mind hearing some something slightly more substantial.

In Lhasa now.
I haven't looked into i much, but it'll be a "special" year for certain.
From what I hear here, priority will be given to certain groups, but exactly what that means is unclear.
A new asphalt road all the way to BC is under construction!
I will meet some from the mountaineering network in a couple of days. Do you have any specific questions?
I can forward your questions if you like.

I advise that you give the Chinese Everest attempt next spring a WIDE berth. From what I have heard it will be huge and they will certainly take over EBC and the mountain. I can probably find the CMA and TMA climbing schedule if you don't have it already.

Thankas guys,

As I am currently somewhere in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, any non google information on what will be happening next year would be appareciated. I guess I am mainly interested in numbers and the plans of the CMA that is different from previous years. I have had snippets of information from everestenews.net but nothing particularly quantitative.
