Elbrus: question re Barrels huts

by andre hangaard » Wed Dec 19, 2007 2:47 pm

I am planning to do Elbrus next summer over Azau and Barrels huts. Can anyone kindly give some feedback regarding the standard of these huts?
Are there any lockers so that one can store some equipment on summitday?
I guess there are no locker up at Diesel hut? cheers. André

I went this summer and stayed 4 days in the barrels. They are definantly not luxurious: don't smell very good, dirty, and bad beds. But they are warm (electric heater) and a convenient place to store your stuff. As far as I know, there were no actual lockers; I stayed together with all friends in a barrel, so this was not an issue. The barrels themselves can be locked from the outside with a key when you leave. Normally, this should not be a problem I think.
