conditions on Lone Peak

Postby climbingchic » Wed Oct 07, 2009 10:52 pm

I posted this thread on the mountaineering ongoing thread but I don't know where it will get the most attention. Sorry about posting it twice.

I saw the pics of red and white baldy from that thread and saw how little snow there was. Are the conditions the same on Lone Peak as well? If there is little snow, I may very well go up on Saturday. If anyone knows, please advise. Thanks!

IF you're heading up Jacob's Ladder, the south facing slopes don't seem to hold much if any snow down lower, plan on most likely running into 4-8 inches up higher, possibly more in the shaded areas. On Red and White Baldy last week the average was about 6 inches or so, in some places where the snow had been accumulating from wind it was up to 10 to 12 inches. Not too bad at all, just made progress slightly slower, especially on the boulder fields. It looks like the Wasatch recieved more a couple days back, I imagine some of that will melt down a bit here over the next few days. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, wasatchvoyage. I realize I won't have to worry about snow down low. I'm actually worried more about the ridge area than anything else.
