Colbert's Ridge Trail blazes. (in the Blacks)

by thespiffy » Mon Dec 07, 2009 4:08 pm

I hiked Colbert Ridge Trail starting near the Hemlocks Recreation Area Saturday night.

Started the hike around 17:00. It was a peaceful, breezy night for a hike.

They changed the blazes from white to orange, which helps identifying them on snow blasted trees-- thanks for that :-)

Curiously though, the trail bares out in a clearing at the top and *all* blazes stop. I couldn't find a single blaze at night or the next morning.

Can anyone familiar with the area offer some input on this?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you reached the end of the trail at Deep Gap and the Black Mountain Crest Trail (running south- north). Blazes are hard to find (I think orange) on the BMCT along this section. The last time I was up there in September, even the 2 brown signs "BOWLENS CR", "COLBERTS CR" were missing.
