pahsimeroi and borah access during winter

by stormflap » Tue Jan 05, 2010 4:46 pm

whats the best access to the pahsimeroi valley for winter months? is double spring pass road from hwy 93 the only way? i wanted to do some snowshoeing into the valley next month but dont have enough time for a long approach. we will be renting a small economy car. so my main question is with my car how are the road conditions on double spring for february? i definitely dont wanna get stuck in the snow. i see where the cut off road has a stream crossing. from pictures ive seen before i know its 4x4 only. so in our car if the conditions are fine that would be our stopping point. right at the north east ridge or borah. but only if we can even make it that far.

Unless things have changed recently, Doublespring Pass Road is not open during the winter. I don't think it's officially closed, but there is no snow removal or any other effort to keep it open.

yep ive been getting some good help on idahosummits.com they say its definitely a bad idea. my car wouldnt make it one mile in. i would have to snowshoe in which could be two days. we only have a day. but now im wondering about some good winter day hikes in the lost river area..with easy access from my car. thanks for the help.
