A curious glitch?

by Bubba Suess » Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:56 pm

This is not a big deal. I am inquiring only out of curiosity. Two of the comments on my recently posted Peck Hill page were posted back on the 18th of March. This morning I found they had moved up to the top of my most recent comments, though the dates afixed to them had not changed. They remain dated from several days ago but show up on top of posts made only two days ago. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen?

It's an evil elf conspiracy, dude. It's part of their plan to rule the world and turn the internet into a fascist dictatorship, beginning by moving your comments. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

That sometimes happens when people edit their comments.

I could never understand why folks edit their comments, unless they're striving to be
"politically correct."

I have occasionally come across a comment of mine that had a typo or a remark that was no longer relevant to the submission (like a suggestion for a change that the owner later made) and then edited my comment.

I think the second quotation mark should come before the period, not after it. You may want to edit that.

Hey, this is beginning to sound like one of those lost PnP threads.

Now, all we need is for "Lolli' to chime in, and tell me it belongs on PnP !!!

I have occassionally edited comments...typically the ones I have posted late night on weekends and I had my "beer goggles" on at the time of posting.

Let's not forget the "wine and cheese" goggles!

Hmmm, did I spell that right?

You have opened a box of stinging bees!.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation_mark

Punctuation
With regard to quotation marks adjacent to periods and commas, there are two styles of punctuation in widespread use. While these two styles are most commonly referred to as “American” and “British” respectively (and some style sheets provide no other name), some American writers and organizations use the “British” style and vice versa. Both systems have the same rules regarding question marks, exclamation points, colons and semicolons. They differ on the treatment of periods and commas.

In the U.S., the standard style is called American style, typesetters’ rules, printers’ rules, typographical usage, or traditional punctuation, whereby commas and periods are almost always placed inside closing quotation marks. This style of punctuation is common in the U.S., Canada, and in the U.K. in fiction and journalism.

The other standard style—called British style or logical punctuation—is to include within quotation marks only those punctuation marks that appeared in the quoted material, but otherwise to place punctuation outside the closing quotation marks. According to The Chicago Manual of Style, this system requires extreme authorial precision and occasional decisions by editors.
